Sorig is the Tibetan word for the moral science and Life living process.

Welcome to Sorig Foundation

Our Spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, emphasized teaching the knowledge of Tibeten culture. The Sorig Foundation was founded to oversee the School & Monastery in northeastern Himalayas to benefit the Snow Land people and all humanity.

The subsequent destruction of the centers of learning in Tibet have been a great blow to the Snow Land people of the Himalayas. Due to the absence of proper Tibetan co-educational schools, families are sending their children to distant places in India to learn Tibetan & receive an education. This is onlly available to families that have financial means.

The establishment of Sorig Foundation‘s Residential school provides opportunity for learning the Tibetan culture and language at Dirang Dzong, West Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh, India for the young generation and bring about socio-economic changes.

About Our Organization

In the western fringe of Arunachal Pradesh is the West Kameng Dirang Dzong Valley, a small township. It is inhabited mostly by the Monpa tribe of Tibetan along with some other tribes like Sherdukpens, Meiji etc. This region has its own distinct geographic entity with the Himalayan ranges along the Northern Border, criss-crossed with mountain ranges running North–South. This picturesque mountainous region, with deep forests and valleys, is very rich with different types of flora and fauna. The minority tribes inhabiting their remote and difficult regions have maintained their rich tradition and culture heritage.

There exists a deep linkage between language and culture of a region. Language is the system of communication in speech and writing that is used by people of a particular region, in the mode of which, the culture of a society finds its expression. To have appropriate insight into the similarities and minor differences amongst the indigenous tribes of the region it is felt necessary to focus attention and derive better understanding of the language used by them.

Sorig Foundation was founded in 2000, a non-government organization registered under the India Societies Registration Act. 1860, bearing no. SR/ITA/901. The Foundation is located in Dirang, a remote area of Arunachal Pradesh, in the Northeastern Himalaya. Sorig's mission is to impart the best education & training, and the preservation of rich culture heritage for the benefit of the people of the Himalayan region and all humanity.
